ABFA Responds to Milestone DPA Award Announcement
Friday, September 19, 2014
The Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA) has released the following statement attributable to President Michael McAdams in response to today’s announcement on the companies awarded funding under the Defense Production Act (DPA) program to build advanced drop-in biofuels plants.
“Today the Administration announced the companies awarded funding under the Defense Production Act (DPA) program to build advanced drop-in biofuels plants. This is an important and critical step in deploying a portfolio approach to the types of fuels America and her military use in the future. As has been the case going back to the War of 1812, the Navy has been a leader in seeing this process move forward and Advanced Biofuels Association wants to salute the men and woman of the Navy for their efforts in regards to this program. We also want to thank the Department of Defense as well as the Department of Agriculture for playing a crucial part in this effort.
As for our member, Velocys, our hats are off for a job well done in putting together a winning team to deploy its technology that will bring innovative solutions to the future of fuels for America and the armed forces. This portfolio approach helps to position our country with multiple options to fuel our planes, tanks and fleets in an ever challenging world. The fuels to be developed are energy dense, meaning more miles to the gallon, and fungible in today’s existing infrastructure, planes, automobiles, trucks and ships. Today’s announcement was almost three years in the making and without the support of the Administration and the Members of the Senate it simply would not have been possible. It was their steadfast vision of the future, which has made today a reality. A reality which should make us all applaud, as once again we reach for a goal like the moon, and take one small step for mankind into the future of sustainable fuels.”
