ABFA Salutes First Chairman and Founding Member On Retirement

Friday, April 21, 2017

Washington, D.C. – Following many years of tremendous service to the biofuels industry in his capacity as the first Chairman of the Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA) and Chief Executive Officer of Virent, Lee Edwards has announced his retirement from Virent effective April 30, 2017.

One of the founding members of ABFA, Edwards joined in the Association in 2008. Lee brought with him 25 years of global energy experience at BP, including his roles as CEO of BP Solar, President of BP Pipelines, North America, Chief Information Officer for Downstream, and Vice President, BP Global Brand.

“Lee provided tremendous leadership for the entire industry as our Association was just beginning,” said Michael McAdams, President of ABFA. “As one of our very first members, Lee helped to shape ABFA’s direction. He brought focus to issues that have made a real difference to our industry and will continue to do so moving forward. His vision and experience at BP gave him that rare skill set of leadership and bottom-line focus required to succeed.”

Virent has named Stacey Orlandi as CEO following Edwards’ departure. Most recently, she was Vice President Technology for Novel Processes and New Energies at Royal Dutch Shell, and previously with BP where she held numerous roles, including Cherry Point Refinery Manager, Refining Technology Development Manager and Refining Supply Manager.

“We greatly look forward to working with Stacey and continuing our efforts on behalf of Virent and the advanced biofuels industry,” said McAdams. “The promise of Virent’s technology and its ability to deliver commercial drop-in fuels is emblematic of our industry and its future.”
