Federal Funding
Federal support is often an essential bridge across the “commercialization gap,” helping scale promising low-carbon technologies into fully commercialized production. For myriad reasons, most notably because biofuels compete in global commodity markets dependent on oil prices, the high capital costs for new facilities can be difficult to finance in the marketplace. Programs enacted by Congress across the DOE, USDA, and DOD have created critical financing and funding opportunities for the advanced biofuels industry. These programs have been used to build some of the first cellulosic biofuels facilities in the world. ABFA encourages their continued support, and additional dedicated programs to support burgeoning markets and fuel technologies, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
