Advanced Biofuels Association President Michael McAdams Receives the William C. Holmberg Award for Lifetime Achievement
Today, the Advanced Biofuels Association’s President, Michael McAdams, received the William C. Holmberg Award for Lifetime Achievement at the 2023 American Bioeconomy Leadership Conference (ABLC) in recognition of his contributions to the U.S. bioeconomy and the collective effort to reduce the country’s carbon emissions.
“To be honored with an award with my friend Bill Holmberg’s name on it is more than I deserve. He was a man of great commitment and integrity, and an industry pioneer. His legacy continues to inspire me and my colleagues working to reduce carbon emissions to this day.
“The advanced biofuels industry has made incredible strides since I joined the sector in 1978. Before the 2005 passage of the Renewable Fuels Standard Program, the United States was producing only 2 billion gallons of ethanol annually. Today, that annual production total is 17 billion, and the biomass-based diesel pool, which my organization was formed to nurture, has grown from 1 billion to 8 billion gallons per year by 2025. The journey has been incredible, and I have never been more optimistic about the future of this industry.
“However, there is still much to be done. I urge Congress and the EPA to champion policies, such as a Renewable Volume Obligation that accurately measures the strength and potential of the advanced biofuels sector, and other regulations to foster innovation and unleash the full potential of our industry. Together, we can build on the strong foundation that has propelled us this far and ensure a low carbon future for America and the world.”
