What are RINs?
Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) are credits utilized for compliance under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program, often dubbed the program’s “currency.” When a company produces any number of gallons of applicable renewable fuels, it generates a corresponding number of RINs. Companies have the option to buy and sell RINs to other parties to meet their obligations under the RFS.
